Hypnosis Hypnotherapy Session in office

What is Hypnotism? Is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy same? Or, they are different?

Hypnotism is the study, practice, and application of hypnosis. It is accepted as an alternative and/or complementary approach to health and wellness because of its holistic (mind-body-spirit) benefits to mankind and also is popular in public as a performing art for entertainment such as stage hypnosis, street performance, TV shows, or movies. Here we will be focusing only on professional hypnosis because that's what we do at ATHAC, Inc.

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are used interchangeably in professional hypnotism, though they are literally not the same but used synonymously. Hypnosis is a more commonly used word for hypnotism and hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is a state of consciousness and is used by hypnotists as a tool to help their clients succeed. Hypnotherapy is the term used by psychologists and medical practitioners for their clinical and therapeutic application in the treatment of their patients.

Professional Hypnotists prefer to use hypnosis while working with their clients. If Hypnotists apply hypnosis with the treatment plan provided by (or in referral from) the psychologists/medical providers, it is considered hypnotherapy. The same work done without a referral from medical providers is considered hypnosis work.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis is a state of consciousness, it does not feel like anything by itself. Usually, you will feel relaxed while doing hypnosis because hypnotists used to suggest their clients relax. People will have different subjective descriptions of it. Some people will say it feels like their body is heavily relaxed, others experience a tingling sensation, and instead of being heavy and relaxed, some people feel light and float. So, the subjective experience of hypnosis is not a reliable measurement. Although some techniques are very active, you may speak with the hypnotist during your session. Hypnosis in and of itself is a pleasant experience. It is a time to let go of the other thoughts of the day and focus on the issues you came in to work on.

How can hypnosis help you?

Your subconscious mind is who you are. It is the smartest, sharpest, quickest, and most intuitive part of the human mind, which makes up around 95% of your brain. It handles everything the body needs to function properly; breathing, eating, digesting, and making memories, including all voluntary and involuntary functions of the human body. With the help of hypnosis, allows the subconscious mind to use new ideas to resolve your problems. Hypnosis helps you gain control over behaviors you would like to change. It helps you reduce your stress, anxiety, pain, fear, depression, and any other such emotional and behavioral problems.

Is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy Safe?

Hypnosis is safe. You are aware, and you have control in hypnosis. It is a heightened state of mind, where you are awake but focused on what you are willing to accept. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that everyone has experienced naturally many times. Millions of people have safely experienced hypnosis.

Anyone with the least normal intelligence can easily go into hypnosis without any difficulty. You can too! It’s a state of mind that everyone has already experienced in our day-to-day life. Hypnosis is such a natural state of mind that most people usually don't even realize that they are hypnotized. Scientists, medical professionals, psychologists, and professional hypnotists have been using hypnosis for over 200 years, and no one has ever been hurt by simply going into hypnosis.
